How To Celebrate International Women’s Day 2021
How To Celebrate International Women’s Day 2021.
Here at Love Raw, we love our ladies! So we would never pass on the chance to celebrate International Women’s Day despite the circumstances (thanks once again Corona). For those who don’t know, International Women's Day is on March 8 (that's today) and we want you to get involved. Despite this day coming round only once a year, you can still continue to support and stand up for women's rights every day of the year.
What’s the theme for 2021?
We’re glad you asked. So this year, the theme is ‘Choose To Challenge’. So why challenge? When we challenge the status quo, this helps increase change, which is something we need constantly in today's world. This is why International Women’s Day urges everybody, however they identify, to choose to challenge by forging an equal world, celebrating women's achievements, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality. It might seem like a tough feat but we are all capable of it and we’re here today to show you how!
Who Is An Inspirational Woman to You and why?
Now when we began researching for this blog post, in true researching fashion, we wanted to see what powerful statements women had made throughout history, and we think tennis legend Serena Williams really hit the nail on the head with this one: “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all be humble.”
But the truth is, inspirational women are everywhere. We see them in TV, film, theatre, music, politics and sport. But these women don’t need to have be on the silver screen. You can look to your mum, sister, grandma, friends, partners, even your colleagues! Inspirational women are everywhere, you just have to look for them…
We’d love to know if there's a woman that inspires you, so pop a comment in the box down below!
How Can I celebrate International Women's Day?
There are many ways you can get involved, from celebrating women's achievements, raising awareness about women's equality, lobbying for accelerated gender parity and fundraising for female focused charities.
Here are a couple of ideas so you can get involved this year:-
If you’re working from home or in the office, gather your friends, family and co workers together and strike the Choose to Challenge pose. All you need to do is take a photo of yourself raising your hand and upload to social media and caption with the hashtag #ChooseToChallenge.
-
You can even show your support for women-owned small businesses. Get involved by purchasing something from a female led brand, sign up for an online class run by women or even give a women's brand online a shout out, they’ll love you for it.
What Is Love Raw doing to support International Women’s Day?
This year, we’ll be fundraising for a female focused charity. We’ve decided to partner up with Women’s Aid.
Throughout the whole of International Women's Day, we will be donating 10% of our sales to Women's Aid. So when you buy any case of buttercups, you'll be getting the second case half off.
All you need to do is, add your products to the cart, continue to checkout and apply the code WOMENSDAY. Not only with you be getting some truly epic chocolate but you'll be helping domestic survivors across the country.
What Do Women's Aid Do?
For those who don't know, Women’s Aid is a national charity that works to end domestic abuse against women and children.
Through practice, research and policy, Women’s Aid has been at the forefront of shaping and coordinating responses to domestic abuse for the past 45 years. Their work is incredibly important, now more than ever. In a truly testing year, this remarkable organisation has stood by its survivors and has continued to empower them by working tirelessly to keep their voices heard.
Due to the pandemic, abuse on women and children has escalated as we have been spending more time at home. Whilst home is often a safe place for many, this isn’t the calm, comforting oasis for people subject to abuse.
Women’s Aid have been collecting information over the course of the pandemic to show the impact of lockdown on those experiencing abuse. Titled the ‘Survivor Survey’, Women’s Aid found that abuse has been escalating, here are the figures:
-
67% of survivors who are currently experiencing abuse said it has got worse since Covid-19 ∙ 72% said their abuser had more control over their life
-
Over three quarters of survivors living with an abuser said they felt they could not leave or get away because of the pandemic
So however you celebrate today remember about the women who are less privileged, more disadvantaged and in desperate need for help. In a testing year, not just women, but people everywhere need to stick together and support one another.
So we pose you this question, will you choose to challenge? We hope so.
